12:31 AM - the scratch off

In my line of work, you tend to walk out the door at the end of the day with quite a few "interesting" stories. Yesterday, I had one of particular interest. I had a customer come in who I could only describe as typical. If you are currently or have ever been a coworker of mine there, you know what I'm talking about, and if not I'm sure you can still pick up on the vibe I'm putting down. Anyway, he asks me for assistance with something. And he turns out to be one of those who just won't leave you the hell alone, and then wants to tell you their entire life story. And I couldn't justifiably blow the guy off because 1) I'm not gay, and 2) being in customer service, it's my job to stare vacantly at random people while they prattle on about their latest bowel movement, or lack thereof. Goddamn I love my job. But, I digress. When he's finally finished wasting my time, he rewards me with... a scratch off lottery ticket. You know the kind. It had bananas all over it, and you have to scratch off three of the same number to instantly win that amount in cash. Normally I wouldn't waste my time or money on something like that, but hey, it was free. So I pull out a coin and start scratching. 12, 80, 2000, 2000, 2, 10. I scratched off every single spot on the card, and there were not three like numbers on the whole thing. In other words, no matter how I would've played my card, I was not going to be a winner. I couldn't help but sideglance as the irony of the moment settled in. Truly, this was one of those things that happens to me and characters in poorly written sitcoms.

I wasn't entirely sure if I should categorize this entry as work or life, since it was a reflection of both. But now I'm just getting trivial, and my lime sherbet is starting to melt.
